Enter Mason

Story Notes

Into the mix, the universe throws a variable. Mason Freely. Wild, lewd, smart, and unpredictable. When an altercation almost erupts between Mason and Paul the orderly, Leanna once again demonstrates her subtle prowess. She recognizes that Mason pushes back hardest against those who push on him.

Dwarfed by the men around him, she quickly diffuses the situation by simply showing Mason a little respect, and asking him permission to call him by his first name.

Mason settles back into his harmless lewd manner as they escort him down the hall towards his temporary home. What the don't realize is that they are escorting him within close proximity of a dark symphony which he knows all too well.

Mason's demeanor changes rapidly as they approach the end of the hall and Cage's room. It is as though something has reached out and grabbed Mason's entrails, and squeezed them tight. He buckles over in pain. Paul figures it is simply another gag, but Leanna notices the way he defers to Cage's door.

Just when it appears the incident is over, Mason violently attacks Paul and then proudly locks himself into his new room.

Bill attends to Paul as Leanna struggles to assess the meaning of these events vis-a-vis her new solitary knowledge about what Cage might be dealing with. She realizes that the connection to Cage somehow relies on dissasociative personalities.

Later, Bill comes apart in the privacy of his office and lays into Leanna for her unconventional and secretive ways. He blames himself for the incident and blames her for his lack of focus.

Leanna has decided to do another test tonight, and she needs Bill to leave. So when he asks her if she's "working him", she lies and claims innocence. She's cut him out of the loop for now, hell bent on getting to the bottom of the mystery surrounding Cage.

Filmmaker's Notes

People are always intrigued by Masons unique tattoos. I'll tell you a secret about those. During the time when I was prepping the movie I stumbled upon an image of a very young tribal boy holding up the head of a tiger and looking out at the camera through its wide open mouth. This immediately hit me as the image of Mason. A childish figure inside the visage of a tiger. Hence the tats. You'll also see a bunny rabbit holding a flower on the back of his neck. You'll have to ask him the significance of that, if you dare.

By the way, whatever they pay the people who apply temporary tattoos for movies, it's not enough. Mason's were a combination of cut apart stick-on's, and an eye-liner pencil from the makeup guy. Thank goodness Josh Childs has a phenomenal sense of humor because he suffered through my tedious application of these tats several times, and kept a great attitude all the way through. He also agreed to wear one blue contact lens so that his eyes would be just a little bit off. He did all this while also performing in at least two other shows at the same time. He's a hell of an actor and a funny funny guy and a great example of the amazing cast and crew commitment I benefited from.
