Story Notes

The relationship between Leanna and Bill is central to the philosophical struggle in this story. At heart, Leanna is an intuitive person, much more representing the Dionysian view of the world, but she has never let herself fully embrace this proclivity. Her Anglo father was not supportive of this sort of nonsense from her mother or from her.

Hence her attraction to the stable, cartesian, Bill Fielding. Representing the ordered Apollonian view of the world. However his world is incomplete, empty, devoid of passion. he has embraced sports and volunteer fireman work to try to get closer to the energy of life. Then Leanna happened to him, as she does to people.

Their respective world views compliment each other, or could do so. The problem is that each distrusts the other's world view. Bill does not put faith in whims or gut feelings. He's seen too many disastrous consequences of uncontrolled behavior. Similarly Leanna knows from her personal experience that a gut feeling is sometimes the only way to break through a problem.

This mild tension between them is about to undergo a major test when they are faced with a series of anomalous situations with weighty consequences and no easy answers.

Ultimately this brings about the central question of the movie. If you ever do, or ever have experienced an unexplained anomalous event, what do you choose to believe?

Filmmaker's Notes

This was our first night of shooting. We worked hard to get up to speed and we found our groove pretty quickly. Britt and I had actually shot this scene before as a test, so we had some comfort with our coverage and our shot list.

That kind of preparation was key for us so that we not only keep a tight schedule, but also give the actors a stable environment within which to create something unexpected.
