The entity forms a plan Story Notes After the conversation Leanna learned a lot, but so did the entity. As a non-corporeal extra dimensional consciousness it has never known captivity until now, so the "rules" of what has bound it up were unclear. From its experience with Morton it now knows that it can manipulate a human un-tethered from Cage, to the extent that the human's nature contains an resonance with foul deeds. Through some strange synchronicity there is a human with vast experience in this area, and he is right down the hall. But he's locked up. So the entity calls to Ruth, who reluctantly responds. When Sarah comes in, the entity strikes, ransoming the release of Mason for Cage's safety. It's a bluff though. The entity cannot harm Cage as long as it is being held by him, or it would risk being trapped forever. Sarah takes the bluff, and gets knocked unconscious by Mason as he responds to the call. He approaches the small feeble woman timidly because he know what she harbors within her. The entity transfers into Mason and quickly despatches Ruth. As she falls though she grabs the IV pole and pulls it into the window, creating a long silvery crack. This will prove important later.
Mustering all the anger in Mason The entity lifts first one hand and then the other away from Cage. Freedom tastes good, and evil thoughts are forming, until something changes abruptly, and Mason frantically learns that the prism has disappeared.
Filmmaker's Notes I particularly like the image above because it shows a human caught between darkness and light. This is representative of the struggle within us. We all harbor evil thoughts. The questions are from where do these arise, and what do we ultimately do with them. Let me tell you about breaking glass. this is a tougher trick than you might think. We were in a real hospital and obviously could not break their widow for our special effect. So what we did was build a mock window pane and slide it in front of the real one. We scored it in the right place and then after several rehearsals and lots of camera and lighting tests, I dropped the IV pole onto the score line. We didn't know if we would be able to see the crack or if the entire thing would just shatter. We had one chance, and it worked perfectly. The indie gods smiled on us.
