Testing a theory
Story Notes Emboldened by her morning's research and her encounter with Ricky, Leanna thinks she may know what to do to reach Cage. She remembers the way Ruth had been "connected" to him, and she decides to attempt it herself. Unfortunately her radio does not tune to the right station. She is unable to form any sort of connection with Cage, and feels foolish for trying. Until she remembers Shawn Finster's mention of removing the prism from Cage's hands. When she tries this very gingerly, he reacts! If he reacts to the removal of the prism then he is probably not catatonic in the traditional sense. Bill startles her out of her moment of discovery. He's miffed. Partly because she's been dodging him all day, but also because she's been unavailable to handle the preparation for a new and unique patient they are about to receive. Leanna quickly buries her newfound discoveries, confident that Bill would not appreciate them. She changes the subject and leads the way out of the room. As Bill leaves he thinks he see's Cage move his hand to cover the jostled prism. But of course to him, this is not possible. So he ignores it. Filmmaker's Notes It's been said before that good filmmaking is about seeing people think. I believe and aspire to that, so I wanted to do a scene where there was a "conversation" with no words. Here we have just such a conversation between a silent therapist, and an apparently catatonic child. Lots of back and forth happens between them during this scene. Lots of ideas pass through Leanna's mind. But there is no dialogue until Bill comes in. Good job guys.
